CONVERSATIONS WITH INANIMATE OBJECTS | Nathan Bell
ARTISTS’ RECEPTION: May 10, 7–9 PM
EXHIBITION: May 10 – June 7, 2025
For this exhibition, Nathan Bell uses a series of eleven large scale “guidance paintings” as a foundation for a site-specific installation. His intention is to create a space where visitors can temporarily escape everyday life’s pressures by immersing themselves in a world that serves as an entry point into uncharted territory. Bell invites the viewer to embark on a journey to unearth latent archetypes where consciousness unfurls into a surreal tapestry of ethereal forms and lists.
In addition to his “guidance paintings”, Bell strategically adds 3D wood sculptures, ceramic pieces, and process work, speaking to how he makes his way through the world, where his personal history and memories converge with cultural and subcultural narratives.
“This body of work speaks to my profound sense of wonder for the simplest things — an ordinary tumbleweed takes on a whole village, a cardboard box transforms into a monstrous drink. I want the viewer to embrace the joy of assembling a menagerie of wonders, both in the physical and on the canvas.”
