BRETT WESTFALL & MOON WESTFALL | Allocation's Time
ARTISTS' RECEPTION: November 23, 7–9 PM
EXHIBITION: November 23 – December 27, 2024
We are pleased to present Brett & Moon Westfall’s second show here at These Days, Allocation’s Time. For this exhibition, multidisciplinary artist Brett Westfall and his 15 year old daughter Moon, expand on their practice of collaborating on canvases to include sculpture, assemblage, and installation, endeavoring to create a total space. A recent turn-of-events forced both Westfalls’ to consider the frailty of our human form and how the trajectory of our lives can change at a moments notice, without warning. Accepting this realization has led them to consider how they spend their time and with whom. These considerations are the catalyst behind this newest exhibition, Allocation’s Time.
“This exhibition is about the precious commodity of time. When we are young and growing up it feels like time is a never ending slow process in which we have an infinite amount. As we grow older into adulthood and further, there is an understanding that comes with the realization that time is actually moving faster than we can imagine and we do not have enough. This brings us to the reality that time itself is the most precious commodity of all. The way we spend this time as we get older, how we allocate it, and who we share it with in our life here on earth. Do we choose to spend our time in happiness, hope and joy? Or in a life of worry and darkness thinking only about our shortcomings in the limited time we have left ? How will we as individuals decide to spend our time and what kind of existence will we decide to have in our allocation of life’s time.” - Brett Westfall
