ARTIST'S RECEPTION: April 20, 7–9 PM

EXHIBITION: April 20 - May 25, 2024

Please join These Days for SWEET DREAM WOMAN, an exhibition by artist Paul Urich.

For his first solo exhibition in Los Angeles, Urich draws from traditional tattoo motifs, imbuing the work with his own tweaks and style using a variety of mediums including water colors, ball point pens, etching, and fabric paint. In a unique twist on the ancient art of body modification, Urich builds DIY tattoo machines from obsolete technology for his clients. After the tattoo is completed, he mounts the primitive machines in shadowboxes surrounded with small drawings, text, and urban detritus collected from the streets of his East Oakland neighborhood, transforming the mundane objects into meaningful artifacts. For Sweet Dream Woman, Urich will be displaying his  shadowboxes, hand-painted flash, drawings, works on fabric, assemblage and collaborations with a coterie of his talented peers.

Paul Urich. (b. 1974, Florida) Over the course of his life, Urich has excelled at most endeavors he’s participated in. Whether surfing, skateboarding, music, or art, he’s made an indelible impression. He currently resides in Oakland, CA with his wife and dogs where he operates the tattoo studio Nowheresville.
