COLIN BURNS | Evocative Fantasy Space

THESE DAYS is happy to present EVOCATIVE FANTASY SPACE, our second exhibition with Los Angeles based artist Colin Burns.

For this exhibition Burns utilizes drawing, printmaking, photography, painting, sculptural elements, text, and installation to reference his fascination with film-noir, cults, the occult, new age and self-help language. Through the inherent repetition of the print making process and repeated use of icons he imbues the seemingly meaningless with meaning and significance. The text not only lends an ambiguous narrative when placed under or around the portrait of an unknown foreign movie star but works as an integral design element as well.

This is also be the first time Burns has exhibited his series I TOLD YOU TO NEVER CALL ME HERE, an ongoing project of many years where he has captured stills from films of cinematic heroines on landline telephones in the midst of heated discussions. These Days will be releasing a book of this series to coincide with the exhibition.

No matter the medium all the works reflect a rawness and spirit reminiscent of the punk and metal gig flyers Burns created during his years playing in various bands.
